Reference for Annika Garratt
13th March 2008
Annika Garratt was a student here at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth between 2003 and 2005. I had the experience of teaching her during her second year of study on the BA (Hons) Fine Art degree. I considered her to be a diligent and committed student, even though it became clear that Fine Art was not the best direction for her and she chose to leave the course after the 2nd year. I fully support her intentions to now study illustration and believe she will be committed to this new direction. Her work on the BA showed an enthusiasm and interest in visual questions and solutions, some of which was quite personal in its nature. She explored media and materials with a good degree of sensitivity.
During the course she demonstrated an openness and responsiveness to ideas and input. Her attitude to learning was very good and displayed good studentship qualities. She engaged in the cultural theory that informs the discipline, showing good research skills and good skills in written and verbal articulation of ideas and arguments.
Annika has been continuing with a form of practice since leaving us, which represents good self-direction, initiative and commitment to her new interest in illustration. I recommend Annika to you. I believe she will be an asset to your course.
